Back in the summer we had the privilege of joining some of our best clients on a weekend incentive and familiarisation trip to Austria. While Austria may not feature highly on the list of dream incentive destinations, our experience is that it really should do.
The Salzkammergut area we visited is nestled within a stunning Alpine landscape where the endless beauty cascades down from all angles; big skies, might mountains, lush greenery and crystal clear waters, it’s obvious why Austrians retreat here to recharge their batteries. The air is the freshest you could sample and the list of activities is endless, from skiing and hiking through to Schnapps tasting and water sports. If you’re looking for an accessible Central European location then there’s no finer place to wow your guests.
AOK Events hosted and agency FAM trip, hosting guests from Grass Roots, Clive, GP Associates & Soho Travel amongst others. We met at Stansted Airport for strong coffees before our 8am flight to Salzburg. On arrival we were met by a fleet of Scalaria-branded BMW 7 Series, which whisked us away for an impromptu sightseeing tour of Salzburg, before heading up into the mountains of Upper Austria, showing off the incredible scenery.
The group enjoyed a lovely two-course lunch in the 19th Century Castle part of the venue before a full show round commenced at 2 pm. We looked around the 8 meeting rooms, before seeing the undisputed stars of the showround, Mystic Underworld (the venues very own private nightclub), DOX Theatre (the main presentation space with an extraordinary amount of AV kit included) and Circus Circus (the incredible restaurant/show area). Everyone agreed that they were mind-blowing event spaces, all with the breath-taking scenery of the Austrian Lake District & Lake Wolfgang right outside.
With the venue getting ready for the Scalaria Symphony that evening, local DMC Inspiria picked us up at 4pm and took us on a tour of Lake Wolfgang, explaining all of the different activities that you could do in the area, ranging from track days at the Salzburgring to skiing in the Tyrol, or exploring the local salt mines.
We then enjoyed a tour of the local, award-winning schnapps brewery before heading back to Scalaria for the main event, the Scalaria symphony. This was an extraordinary hour-long event combining planes & helicopters from the Red Bull Flying team, a live band put together by Depeche Mode’s Andy Fletcher, a ballerina, 2 circus acts, a DJ, 4 boats on the Lake with lit-up kettle drums and lots of fireworks! With the thrilling finale being accompanied by thunderstorms, our party retreated to Circus Circus for a delicious three-course meal washed down by lovely local wines. After dessert, Munich’s best party band, Soul Kitchen, ensured that the dance floor was full to bursting and that it had been a day and a night that guests would remember forever.
